Mckay Eyeing Double Over League Leaders

18 November 2016

Striker Billy Mckay is eyeing a double over Scunthorpe United as Oldham Athletic travel to Glanford Park tomorrow afternoon.

The striker has netted three goals this season but is still looking for his first in the league and he believes Athletic can put up a good fight against the league leaders tomorrow.

He said: “They are up there for a reason but when they came up here we beat them 2-0 and we played really well.

"They are beatable and we know what to do to beat them. We have got to make sure to put that into action tomorrow.

“It’s going to be a tough game but I think every game in this league is tough.

“Three points and to do the double over the team at the top of the league would be great and we could push on from there.”

Whilst Latics sit in the relegation places in Sky Bet League One, Mckay has every confidence the club will get out of that situation.

“It’s not a position we want to be in at the moment but I do think it’s a bit of a false position,” he admitted.

"We have done quite well in games but have not got the rewards we should have. We are where we are and we know what we have to do to get out of it.

“The amount of times we have hit the woodwork and the chances that we have had then we could be higher in the table.

“We need to start picking up points, climbing the table and I believe we can do that."

The striker has struck up a good partnership with midfielder Ryan Flynn. “We were all new at the start of the season and we are starting to know each others games now,” he said.

“I know when Flynny has the ball he is going to drive at the defence and I need to make my runs off that.

“He’s slipped me in a couple of times now and hopefully we can continue to do that until the end of the season.”
