Central defender Cameron Burgess believes the fans can make a massive difference during tomorrow’s local derby against Rochdale.
The central defender has been an ever-present for Latics this season after joining on the club on a six-month loan from Fulham in the summer.
He is looking forward to his first taste of an Oldham vs. Rochdale derby and he believes the fans will make a massive difference.
He said: “All the fans need to be a big voice as we know they can be and they have been.
"Their support has been brilliant throughout all the games, it’s a derby game and they will be up for it and I can’t wait for it myself.
"When you have spells in the game, the momentum can build and the fans get right behind you. Everyone wants to get the three points on the board.”
A win on Saturday could take Latics away from the relegation zone and Burgess believes the club are close to getting things right on the pitch.
“We talk about the games all the time and we feel we are so close to getting it right,” he commented. “We just need fine-tune one or two things but then we will be there.
“One of the things we need to fine-tune is defending from set pieces.
"If we can make that right then you could look at where we could be in the league if we had not conceded the goals from set pieces, then it shows it needs to be sorted out from us as a team.
“The clean sheets are what we pride ourselves on at the back so if we can keep up getting more of those then we will come good."
Burgess has formed up a good partnership with experienced defender Peter Clarke who has helped develop him.
“He has been absolutely brilliant for me, in the game, after the game, on the training ground, anywhere really,” he said.
"I’ve been lapping up all the experience he has got and that will make me a better player in the future.
