Striker Lee Erwin believes his side can take confidence from last night’s performance and take that into the league game against Gillingham on Saturday.
The Leeds loanee gave Latics a two goal lead on 38 minutes after he picked the ball out the air from Paul Green’s long pass.
He cut inside onto his left foot and finished into the far corner and he now believes that Latics can take confidence from that performance.
He said: "It was a lot better than Saturday’s performance against MK Dons. To be fair, we have actually played really well away from home but we just need to take that into our home games now.
“I’m happy with the clean sheet and me and Billy [Mckay] scored tonight so we will try and take that confidence into Saturday as well.”
That was the striker’s second goal for Athletic since signing on loan over the summer and he gave his assessment of the game.
“I think it was a dog fight in the first 10 or 15 minutes to try and get a hold of the game but luckily it was us,” Erwin admitted.
"Flynny did brilliant to dribble past two or three players and feed Billy and it’s a great finish. After that we completely took control of the game.
“All goals count the same but I was delighted to get on the scoresheet."
Athletic make the long trip to Gillingham on Saturday afternoon but Erwin believes it’s a good time to face the Gills.
“We will be going there with the same attitude tonight, taking the confidence and hopefully we will do damage there,” he said.
