Wilson: “The Away Fans Are Something Special.”

14 October 2016

Defender Brian Wilson believes the support from the fans could make the difference on Saturday against Bolton Wanderers.

Over 1,600 have been sold for the game and with more expected to attend, the defender had strong praise for the Oldham Athletic faithful.

He said: "They are the best away following, club wise, that I’ve been at. The atmosphere is unbelievable with the amount of fans we take.

“There was only a couple of hundred at Gillingham but they travelled all that way and the good result took them home happy so I’m looking forward to it because the away fans are something special.”

After back to back wins in league and cup, the players go into the game against Bolton Wanderers on a high.

“Back to back wins lifts confidence because it has been quite low in the camp,” he admitted.

“A few wins has given us that belief that we can progress and a win on Saturday, with the confidence high, will soon get us out of that bottom four and looking upwards.

"We’ve had a positive week and we just need to get some consistency now, we need to keep it going into a busy week against Bolton, Scunthorpe and Bristol Rovers.

“Everyone is starting to perform at their peak and if we keep winning games then it is hard for the manager to change anything.

"On a personal note, we can keep winning, keep doing well and I’ll keep my place. If that doesn’t happen then I know someone will be in line to take it.”

Wilson knows Bolton will be a tough test but knows if Latics play to their full potential, it could be a very good day.

“They are a massive club with big players in their side but they haven’t been doing too well,” he said.

“We are good away from home so I’m not concerned about Bolton, I’m more concerned with how we perform.

“If we do perform how we have done this week then there is no reason we can’t come away with the three points."
