Positives For Youth Team To Take Following Weekend’s Defeat

14 September 2016

Oldham Athletic youth team fell to a 1-3 home defeat against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

After trailing 1-0 at half time, Brendy Glackin fired the equaliser early after the break.

However, two goals in the final 20 minutes of the game won the game for the visitors as Latics fell to defeat.

Speaking about the defeat, manager Tony Philliskirk said: “We played so well, dominated the game and created 28 clear cut chances which is a ridiculous amount and we ended up losing the game.

“We are playing some of the best football that we have done in a long time but we are letting ourselves down in the areas that really matter, which is in both boxes.

“The Tranmere staff were asking after the game how we lost the game, but we just haven’t been good enough in both boxes.

“The boys are really doing well on the one and two touch football but maybe we have neglected the other side of the game.

“We might be a little bit too easy to play against so the lads have got to realise that we have to be very good out of possession, in terms of team shape and getting into positions quickly.

“We can take massive positives because we are playing some smashing football but we just have not got the results our performances have deserved.”
