On this day in 1989, Roger Palmer broke a 35 year record to become Oldham Athletic’s top goalscorer.
Eric Gemmell held the all time goal scoring record for the club but Palmer beat it with a magnificent diving header against Ipswich Town.
The Second Division game was a comfortable 4-0 win for Latics, with Palmer scoring his 110th for the Blues.
Overall, he scored 157 goals for the club, a record which still stands today.
