Philliskirk: "We Looked Like The Only Team That Was Going To Win It"

10 April 2017

Oldham Athletic Youth Team Manager, Tony Philliskirk, has praised his team’s spirit after they drew at home to Doncaster Rovers.

Tom Hamer opened the scoring, but Latics were pegged back when the Doncaster youngsters converted a penalty.

Despite the result, Philliskirk gave his team credit: “We went to the end, pushed and we looked like the only team that was going to win it, we couldn't just force the ball over the line.

“It was just another typical performance, we certainly dominated chances wise.”

With just three games of the season left, decisions on some of the players future are to be made in the coming weeks.

The young blue’s boss says this time of year has an effect on the team: “It was a nervy performance to begin with, which in some respects isn’t surprising, it’s a really edgy time for the boys, especially the second years because they know decisions are imminent.

“We’ve got a few meetings with the manager and senior staff coming up in the next week about who's we think should possibly go forward and get contracts, and the boys know about that so it’s an edgy time.”
