Oldham Athletic youth team beat Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium on Monday.
Rory Middleton and Ryan Leonard scored the goals in the second half to secure the win for Tony Philliskirk’s men.
Speaking about the game, Philliskirk said: “We sent out information to other clubs to say our players who hadn’t been offered contracts were playing in the game so there were quite a few people at that game and the lads had the bit between their teeth.
“It was great to see Ryan Leonard back who had been out for so long but all the second years put in a really good performance.
"It was a great bonus to play on the first team pitch but I thought our lads did excellent.
“We grew into the game, got on top and then scored a great goal.
"Rory scored a free kick into the top corner so that was an excellent goal and then Callum Scullion ran the length of the pitch before Ryan Leonard smashed in from the edge of the box which was a really good goal.
"We defended well and looked very good on the break. All in all it was a very professional and pleasing performance.
“Their attitude to the game was outstanding and we were worthy winners.”
