Sheridan: "There Will Be One Or Two Changes"

8 August 2017

Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan plans to make a couple of changes to his side for the Carabao Cup Round One tie against Burton Albion.

Latics face the Championship side tomorrow night at SportsDirect.com Park, 7:45pm kick off.

The Gaffer is hoping to see a bounce back from the players after Saturday's defeat against Oxford United.

"When we have a defeat I always like a game coming quickly and as a player I think they prefer it playing Saturday and then midweek, training takes care of itself when you’re plating two games a week.

"It’s a game against a Championship side so it should be a tough game and a good test to see how we react after Saturday."

The Brewers confirmed the signing of former Latics loanee Connor Ripley who is also set to feature tomorrow.

"We wanted Connor [Ripley] back but it wasn’t to be. He’s gone to the Championship where he wanted to go and good luck to him, he’s a great lad and I hope he does well there." Sheridan said.

"He’s got a move to the Championship because of the way he performed at Oldham last season, but I’m glad the saga is over.

"I won’t deny it, we were hoping that there was a possibility of him coming back or that we had a really good chance of him coming back, it wasn’t to be, it’s dragged on and it’s affected our goalkeeper situation, it’s happened but now we move on."

Despite The Brewers losing 1-0 to an 87th minute gaol at the weekend, Sheridan believes it’ll be a tough game for his side tomorrow.

"Burton are a good solid outfit, we’re probably not expected to win the game but I’m hoping the lads will want to pick up and bounce back from Saturday’s result.

"They’re a well organised team, they did brilliant to stay in the Championship last season, full credit to Nigel Clough, he’s good lad Nige and I like him.

"There will be one or two changes, I think it’s right, there’s one or two that are wanting to be in the team and playing.

"I’ll put out a formation again that will hopefully affect the game and get us the right result and whoever is playing I’m confident they’ll get us that right result."

Oldham Athletic take on Burton Albion in Round One of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, August 9, 7:45pm kick off.
