Sheridan Expecting Tough Encounter

11 August 2017

Manager John Sheridan expects a tough game against Walsall tomorrow.

Latics lost their opening league game of the season last week against Oxford United but Sheridan is hoping his side can bounce back from that defeat.

He said: “It will be a tough game and they are a good footballing side. They had a decent season last year and Jon Whitney does well in bringing a few young players through.

“Technically, they always try and play the right way and they are always a decent outfit at home.

“With the start we have had to the season, we would like to go there and give a good account of ourselves and get a win.”

Last season, Athletic fell to a 2-0 defeat against Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium but the manager is hoping for a different scoreline this time around.

“I just want us to win every game, whether it is away or at home,” he commented.

“There is a big difference of going somewhere and aiming for one point instead of three. We will go to win the game but they are all tough games in this division.

“We have played two and lost two but we will be going there to get our first win.”

Ryan Flynn missed Wednesday’s game due to an injury but could return tomorrow afternoon. “It is just a slight achillies injury,” he said.

“They are a funny injury so you have got to be wary. I don’t think it’s too serious but he just needs a bit of treatment and some rest and he should be available for Saturday.

“Gyamfi he is a bit behind the lads fitness wise but he’s settled in well.”
