Byrne Looking To Making An Impact

30 August 2017

New signing Jack Byrne is looking to make an impact at the club during his loan spell.

The 21-year-old has signed from Wigan Athletic on loan until January 1, 2018.

He said: “Hopefully, I’m here to help us play well, get some good results and hopefully get us up the table.

“I’m grateful to the manager and hopefully I can repay him some good performances and help us move up the table.

“John [Sheridan] just said “go out, play well and express yourself.” He was a brilliant footballer in his day so any advice he has for me I’d be grateful for and I’ll obviously listen and any instructions he has for me to go onto the pitch I’ll try and carry them out.

“He said “Come here, concentrate on your football, try and help us and we’ll try and help you.” It’s been good so far, he’s been great with me.”

On Wednesday evening, the midfielder made his debut for the club in the Checkatrade match with Port Vale.

On his debut he said: “It was my first 90 minutes of the season, I felt stiff but the longer the game went on the better I felt on the ball.

“I’m not fit or close to match fitness really but the only way to get match fit is by playing games.

“I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can get some goals, get some assists and some wins.

“I played in Holland and then in the Championship with Blackburn on loan and then Wigan so I don’t really know a lot about League One but I’m looking forward to it, the manager has been good to me, spoke to me and given me a lowdown.”
