MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Oxford United

4 August 2017

Oldham Athletic kick off the new Sky Bet League One season at home to Oxford United tomorrow.

John Sheridan’s side come into the new campaign after a busy pre-season schedule.

The gaffer is hoping to continue the feel good factor around the SportsDirect.com Park.

“I’m going into the season really positive. I think we can compete with the teams, it’s going to be a really tough league with some good teams in there.” Sheridan said.

Tomorrow’s opponents have strengthened in numbers over the summer with Brazilian full back Ricardinho the latest signing for The U’s.

Highly rated midfielder Jack Payne looks set to make his Oxford league debut after signing on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Town.

The attacking midfielder is well known in league one after being named Southend United’s player of the season in 2015/16 before his move to Huddersfield where he played 28 times in their promotion battle to the Premier League.

It’s the first season as a manager in England for Pep Clotet the new Oxford boss who joined the club after a short spell as assistant manager to Garry Monk at Leeds United and Swansea City.

Latics will welcome back Tope Obadeyi and Courtney Duffus to the squad after missing Tuesday night’s friendly against a Manchester United XI.

Darius Osei will the only player missing from Sheridan’s side tomorrow afternoon following a hamstring injury.

John Helm will be providing commentary on iFollow Latics for supporters tomorrow.

Fans who are unable to attend the game will be able to listen to a legendary commentator as Latics take on the U's tomorrow afternoon.
