MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Port Vale

29 August 2017

Oldham Athletic will take on Port Vale this evening in the first game of this seasons Checkatrade Trophy in a 7:30pm kick off.

Latics will be looking to pick up their first win of the season after a run of four successive defeats in all competitions.

The visitors have just the one win to their name this season after defeating Crawley Town in the opening game of the season.

Oldham Athletic fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Blackpool on Saturday despite a second half goal from striker Darius Osei. Port Vale were also defeated 1-0 at home to Crewe Alexandra.

Manager John Sheridan said ahead of the match: “It’s a game I want to win. I want to win every game. I keep saying we have to stick together and battle through it when you are in a rut, and just try and grind it out. We will take what is thrown at us, be strong and try and get through it the best we can.”

Latics will have new signing Jack Byrne available for selection after he was announced earlier today, signing on loan from Wigan Athletic. The teams last encounter resulted in a scoreless draw in League One last season at Vale Park.

Oldham Athletic are favourites for the match at 21/20 with Sky Bet, with Latics forward Aaron Holloway favourite for first goal scorer at 5/1.
