Manager Richie Wellens was delighted to reach the third round of the Checkatrade Trophy last night.
Athletic beat Bradford City 0-1 at the Northern Commercials Stadium courtesy of an early Tope Obadeyi strike and Wellens praised his side following the win.
He said: “I thought we dominated the game for large periods and play very high energy stuff.
“Tope took his goal well and I felt we could have added a couple more.
“I thought we looked a bit leggy in the second half but it was a difficult night because we played here a couple of weeks ago and there were 20,000 people here.
“Tonight there was hardly anyone here and it is difficult for the players to motivate themselves but I thought the application was really good.
“We forget about this competition now because we have a league game on Saturday and that is more important.
“It’s always nice to have a cup run no matter what and it gives players a lot of confidence. I’m happy with the players who came in and we take that positivity into Saturday.”
