Wellens Gutted For Travelling Supporters

24 December 2017

Oldham Athletic manager Richie Wellens believes his side should have rewarded the traveling supporters with a better performance against Plymouth Argyle.

Latics were 2-0 down inside 7 minutes at Home Park with the hosts going on to win 4-1.

On the match, Wellens said: “I thought in-between both boxes we looked really good, we passed the ball really well.

“We had loads of opportunities to get a penetrative pass in, to get a cross in but in both boxes we were shocking.

“The start was just shocking, we watched a video on them and their lad makes runs into the box so we highlighted to track runners into the box.

“We didn’t manage the game, we’d just got back into it with the goal, you could sense that they were going to panic a bit, we just defended really bad, for the set piece goal there was no one near them.

“I’m gutted for the fans who came here, when you go down so early you never feel as though you’re in the game.

“I’m disappointed for the supporters because they came a long way and we should have rewarded them with more.”

Next up, Oldham Athletic host Fleetwood Town at SportsDirect.com Park on Tuesday, December 26, 3pm kick off.
