WELLENS: “We Didn’t Deserve To Lose”

27 December 2017

Oldham Athletic manager Riche Wellens feels his side did enough to get something from the game against Fleetwood Town.

The visitors scored two goals with their only two shots on target at SportDirect.com Park which was enough to see them win the game 2-1.

On the match, Wellens said: “In the first half there was only one team in it, I can’t remember them having many attacks, we played well and moved the ball about really well.

“We had the best chance of the game when Davies should have scored with his header, unfortunately he didn’t get enough contact on it.

“In the second half, we conceded a goal at a bad time but I wasn’t that worried because we were dominating the game, but when you concede one so quickly afterwards it’s difficult from then on.

“We consistently attacked them through the game and I’m disappointed we lost because we didn’t deserve to lose it.”

“We went for it and we were still trying to get back in the game, we scored the goal and then it was an onslaught in their box, and I think it was a penalty at the end.”

Next up Latics take on Bristol Rovers at SportDirect.com Park on Saturday, December 30, and Wellens is looking to improve on yesterday’s result.

“It’s a chance because they’re a team in and around us, we’ve been really good at home and this is a massive setback but again the performance was there.”
