Oldham Athletic host Northampton Town tomorrow afternoon at SportsDirect.com Park, 3pm kick off.
After a disappointing defeat on Saturday, Richie Wellens’ men responded with a 0-1 win over Bradford City at the Northern Commercials Stadium.
That secured Athletic’s passage through to the third round of the competition to set up a tie against Leicester City under 21s.
It also ended a run of three games without a win as Tope Obadeyi’s early strike sealed the win.
Previously Latics had gone three games without scoring a goal following two goalless draws and a 2-0 defeat against Southend United last weekend.
Northampton Town are five games without a win in all competitions and on the back of a 2-0 defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy against Portsmouth.
In the league, the Cobblers have struggled to hit form and sit in the relegation places.
They have picked up 19 points from their 20 games so far this season under manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who was appointed manager earlier in the season.
Speaking ahead of the game, manager Richie Wellens said: “We were brilliant in our last home game. We passed the ball around and created a number of opportunities but we couldn’t take our chances against Wimbledon.
“The game before was Rochdale and that was a great atmosphere so I’m looking forward to getting back out in front of the home crowd and hopefully they can push us on. It’s an important game for us so we hope to get them the three points.
“Lewis McGugan has played at a higher level and is Northampton’s main threat. They have Grimes on loan from Swansea and they have got some good players, as has everyone in this league.
“This game at home with the way we playing, its all about us. We need to move the ball quickly, open the game up and take our chances now. Let’s start converting chances and get back to scoring three or four goals again.”
Ryan McLaughlin made his long awaited return to fitness and got minutes under his belt on Tuesday night following a hamstring injury which ruled him out for over two months.
Paul Green and Dan Gardner are struggling with little niggles whilst Aaron Amadi-Holloway has been given a 50/50 chance of featuring tomorrow following an unknown injury.
Gyamfi Kyeremeh remains out injured whilst Courtney Duffus continues his rehabilitation from a long injury.
Sky Bet have listed Athletic as favourites for tomorrow’s match at 19/20 with the visitors 14/5 to win.
In-form strikers Eoin Doyle and Craig Davies are both priced at 4/1 to score the opening goal of the match.
