Oldham Athletic secured a valuable point on the road as they drew 0-0 with Swindon Town. Both sides had chances to win the game as Aiden O'Neill went closest for Oldham Athletic at the end of the first half, but he volleyed wide.
Swindon put pressure on Latics in the final minutes of the game but they managed to hold out which secured Athletic their 13th clean sheet this season.
Manager John Sheridan made three changes to the side which beat Charlton Athletic in midweek.
One of those returning men Aaron Amadi-Holloway was the first to go close in the game on three minutes.
The striker, who recovered from a leg injury, cut inside from the left and shot but Swindon defender Nathan Thompson managed to block his shot.
Goalkeeper Connor Ripley had to be alert seconds later as striker Nicky Ajose managed to break free in the penalty area but he managed to turn his shot wide from 10 yards.
Ripley again made a save from the striker on seven minutes as Swindon began to put the pressure on Latics.
Burnley loanee Aiden O'Neill went into the book on nine minutes for a late challenge on a Swindon Town defender but then went close seconds later but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked.
Jonathan Obika and Ben Gladwin both tested Ripley as the goalkeeper was busy in the first half.
However, Athletic had the chance to take the lead on 17 minutes as Ollie Banks' driven corner found the head of Peter Clarke but it went wide of the post.
Gladwin shot wide midway through the half and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill struck over the crossbar from just outside the box.
Whilst Swindon Town were having efforts on goal, Latics never really looked in danger of conceding.
Ripley had to deny Ormonde-Ottewill again on the half hour mark and Obika struck from 10 yards but again, Ripley pushed his effort wide.
Clarke appealed for a penalty on 35 minutes after the defender looked to be bundled over in the penalty box but the referee waved away his protests.
Swindon continued to dominate possession but it would be Latics who had the best opportunity to score before the half time break.
Deep into two additional minutes added on at the end of the first half, Ryan McLaughlin's cross found O'Neill in the centre but his shot from 10 yards went wide of Lawrence Vigouroux's post.
Latics started the second half much the better of the two sides with Holloway having a big influence on proceedings.
The striker won the ball in attack on 48 minutes, he cut inside and attempted to find O'Neill but his cross was cut out.
Whilst the eventual corner was cleared, Latics continued to put the pressure on their opponents in the early exchanges in the second half.
Holloway danced his way past three defenders 10 minutes into the second half but his cut back could not find the onrushing O'Neill.
Clarke headed an Ollie Banks corner into the arms of Vigouroux on the hour mark before Ajose volleyed over from close ranger after a good move from the home side.
Athletic were much better in possession of the ball in the second half and almost took the lead on 67 minutes.
McLaughlin managed to win the ball on the left, and with little ahead of him, decided to race forward and shoot but his effort hit the side netting.
With 20 minutes of the game remaining, Banks had a free kick 25 yards from goal, he found Clarke in the centre but he headed over the crossbar.
Sheridan made changes towards the end as Lee Croft and Michael Ngoo were introduced into the action.
Ngoo put himself about in attack but Latics had some defending to do in the final few minutes.
Clarke almost inadvertently scored an own goal but Ripley managed to catch the ball in time, whilst in the 90th minute, Gladwin blazed over from close range.
Latics threw bodies on the line in the final minute of the game as Clarke managed to clear the ball off the line from Ottewill as the game finished goalless.
