Ripley Sets His Sights On Clean Sheet Record

17 February 2017

Goalkeeper Connor Ripley has set his sights on breaking an Oldham Athletic record.

The goalkeeper, on loan from Middlesbrough, has been in inspired form this season, already keeping 12 clean sheets.

Ripley has now set his sights on breaking an Oldham Athletic record for the amount of clean sheets kept in one season.

He said: "My aim is to beat the record and I've been asking about it and I still don't know what it is because people have been telling me all sorts, but I think it's 18/19 so I'm striving for that.

"The main aim obviously is to stay up but my personal aim is to break a record and that's what I'm going to try and do."

Ripley is keen to heap praise on the players in front of him and reserved praise for the current back four.

"We have got three very experienced players in the back four in Gerrard, Clarke and Wilson," he commented.

"They have done amazingly, conducted themselves really well and they are a hard defence to get past.

"We could play three at the back, but essentially we have good depth to the squad. Rob Hunt is a great lad and a great player.

"He is something that we have been missing and you can tell that when him and Aiden O'Neill came in, who has been tremendous as well, that we needed something to click and it has."

Results on the pitch have picked up with Athletic winning five of their last eight games but Ripley knows tomorrow's game against Swindon Town will be tough.

"Swindon are the team that sticks in my mind where we got absolutely played off the park and we couldn't get anywhere near them," he admitted.

"We know they are a good side and we know they are having a bit of a bad run.

"The coaching staff will have looked at it and assessed it and telling us what we should be doing and hopefully their game plan works out."
