Taylor: “It Was An Easy Decision To Come Back.”

1 February 2017

Fans’ favourite Chris Taylor admitted it was an easy decision to return to Oldham Athletic on loan from Bolton Wanderers.

The 30-year-old served the club for seven seasons between 2005-2012 after coming through the youth team.

He is now back to help Athletic stay in Sky Bet League One and admitted it was an easy decision to sign on the dotted line until the end of the season.

He said: "It was a very easy decision to come back. With myself not playing much at Bolton, and if there was a chance to leave, this was the place where I would love to come back to.

"I know the fans very well and hopefully we can have more success. I have nothing but fond memories all the way through from when I was a young lad at 15 trying to get into the youth team.

"From the youth team, you’re trying to break into the first team and it’s just a passage. Once I broke into the first team we had a couple of play off campaigns and we should have really got promotion once if not twice.

"It felt like it was good times here at the time. The only reason I wanted to leave was to play at a higher level and I’ve done that for the past five years.

“I have played in the Championship so it was definitely worth doing but I’m definitely glad to be back home and hopefully playing football and getting the fans behind us again.

“The number one aim is to playing a small part in getting the club to safety, that’s what we all want to do. This club should not be playing League Two football, it should be pushing top end of League One.

“First thing first is we need to get out of trouble this season and the manager will look to build next season."

Taylor played under manager John Sheridan during his last spell with the club and he admitted the gaffer was a huge influence behind his return.

“The manager was a big draw for me coming back,” he commented. “I had a lot of success under him and he is one of the reasons why I made it as a professional footballer.

“I owe a lot to him and hopefully now, as you see the league table doesn’t look great but I’m hopefully here to get them out of trouble.”

Taylor is a favourite amongst the Latics supporters and he reiterated his affection for the club.

“I was an Oldham supporter even when I wasn’t here and now I’m back here I’m still an Oldham supporter so I just want the best for the club like the fans do.”
