Green: “The Support Was Fantastic.”

25 January 2017

Midfielder Paul Green netted his first goal for the club last night and he admitted the atmosphere played a big part in the win against Peterborough United.

The experienced midfielder stepped up in the 69th minute of the game to put Athletic ahead and he spoke of his delight at full time.

He said: "It was a massive win for us. It was a bit of a set back against Shrewsbury on Saturday but the lads dug in today and we thoroughly deserved the result.

"We were on the front foot throughout the game. We were fantastic tonight.  The first half was cagey but they didn’t really cause us a problem.

“They had a couple of half chances if anything but second half we came out fighting and we deserved the result we got.”

Green kept up his 100% record from the penalty spot last night: “I took the penalties at Rotherham when I was there so I was confident enough to take it and get my first goal for the club,” he admitted.

"I’m not going to tell you my secret but I have a routine that I do. I was confident enough to take it and it went in and got us on our way so I’m happy.”

A massive 7,224 supporters packed into SportsDirect.com Park for last night’s fixture and the former Leeds United man praised the fans.

“The support was fantastic,” he admitted. “They have come in for free but made a really good atmosphere and that’s what we really want every week.

“We want more people here, hopefully they will be here on Saturday and help us kick on.”
