Sheridan Heaps Praise On Players Following Win

15 January 2017

Manager John Sheridan heaped praise on his players after yesterday’s 1-0 win over Gillingham.

Josh Law’s first half free kick was the difference between the two sides and Sheridan felt his players deserved all the credit for yesterday’s win.

He said: “The result and three points was the most important thing but credit to the players, it’s always tough when you’re near the bottom of the league and you’ve not won or scored in a long time so credit to them.

“I only came in Friday so they’ll see more of me and get used to me with the way I want them to play so for the way they went out and gave the performance they did, I’m happy.

“I thought there was a lot of desire and endeavour to get over the line.

“It’s a great goal from a set play, you don’t need 15 passes to score a goal, and that gave us the advantage and it gave us something to hold on to.

"We worked our socks off to get it over the line. We’ve won at home, scored and kept a clean sheet so we’re off to a winning start.”

Law earned praise from Sheridan after his goal secured him a win on his return to the football club.

“It was a great free kick and people were telling me he hits a lovely ball and he’s hit a few today,” he commented.

“He hit the bar near the end and had another free kick in the second half so people tell me he has quality from set plays so it’s important you have got that.

“Especially in this division, set plays can win you games so that’s how it’s ended up."

With the embargo set to be lifted soon, the manager hopes to add a few more additions to his squad this week.

“Hopefully we will have a couple of players in time for the Shrewsbury game next week,” he admitted. “It’s another big game against a team around us.

“We can’t be worried about who else is winning, we know where we are, what we have to do and what points will keep us in the league so I’ll try and install that into the players.

“The most important thing for the club is that we stay in the division, that’s why I’ve been brought back.

“I hope we can repeat last season, it’s a massive task believe me because there isn’t a lot between the teams but I’m confident we can do it."
