Sheridan: “I’m Chuffed To Bits.”

25 January 2017

Manager John Sheridan admitted the atmosphere inside the ground last night reminded him of days gone by.

Paul Green’s penalty set Latics on their way 20 minutes from time whilst Ryan McLaughlin netted his first goal for the club on 83 minutes to win the game for Sheridan’s men.

And the manager heaped praise on his players and supporters following the game.

He said: “I think it was well deserved, we were excellent. I’m chuffed to bits for the lads and the supporters.

“They haven’t had too much to cheer about and to score two goals was good seen as we have only scored five at home this season.

“To have a crowd like we did tonight, and I know it was free entry, but they got right behind the team and it was like the old days.

“We used to get crowds like that quite often and I think they appreciated how we played against a very good team.

“We nullified them because they do outplay teams but I thought we played really well and competed when we had to.

“To get two goals and a clean sheet then I couldn’t ask for more."

It was free entry to all supporters last night and 7,224 fans packed into SportsDirect.com Park for the game.

“The atmosphere was really good, they really for behind the team and the teams performance gave them something to get behind so that’s what we need,” Sheridan commented.

"We need to stick together. We are going to lose games but as long as we fight for everything and if we play like we did tonight then we will have a good chance of getting where we want to be but there is a long way to go yet.”

Sheridan now wants to take last night’s form into Saturday’s game against Bradford City.

“If we play like that and keep that standard up then we have a good chance of winning the games we need to win,” he said.

“I know it’s just one game but I’m very pleased and chuffed to bits for everyone involved with the club.

“Bradford is going to be another test for us, it will be a different game and we will have to stand up to them.

"We have just got to win as many games as we can. Bradford will be a tough game but hopefully we can take the confidence following tonight’s game into Saturday.

“Points are the most important thing but I thought the performance to go along with three points was good.”
