Youth Team Record Emphatic Victory

23 January 2017

The Oldham Athletic youth team were in fine form this weekend, recording an 8-0 victory over York City.

Striker Brendy Glackin netted a hat trick, Chinedu Uche grabbed two and further goals from Brad Kay, Ryan Leonard and Bailey Whalley completed the scoring.

Speaking about the game, youth development phase coach Pete Wild said: “It was a good and positive result.

"It was our first game of the year and the first one since our Youth Cup defeat so the lads were chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch and put the wrongs right.

"The goals have been coming all season. Tony has been saying all season that we are going to get a lot of goals over a team in the past and that came on Saturday.

“We scored goals at good times and played some really good football on a tough pitch.

"I don’t want to be disrespectful to York, they continued to play in the right manner but we were just on our game and everything clicked when maybe earlier in the season it didn’t.

"It’s now about keeping expectations at a reasonable level. There will be tough tests in the next few weeks, especially against Burton Albion who we go to this weekend so we need to follow up the win.”
