Wellens Praises Youngsters Following Stalybridge Win

10 July 2017

Richie Wellens has praised the young players who featured in the first friendly of the pre-season campaign against Stalybridge Celtic over the weekend.

Youth team second years: Jay Sheridan, Tom Hamer and Chinedu Uche all featured in the 4-1 win.

Wellens, who is helping out during pre-season spoke highly of their performances after the match: "everyone of the young lads came out with credit. All the subs that came on, the young boys did well and it’s about the progressing now.

"It was a good experience to come in and play with a some of the first team lads."

New signing, Dan Garnder also made his first appearance for the club with a full 45 minutes in the second half and assisted Darius Osei for the fourth goal.

“When Dan came on, he obviously has played that position before, he can hold the midfield, he gets on the ball more, just settled us down, I thought he was excellent.

“He’s a good footballer I’ve worked with him this last week and you can see technically he’s very good and I think he’ll be a good player for the club.”
