Duffus’ Desire To Develop Impresses John Sheridan

18 July 2017

Manager John Sheridan praised new signing Courtney Duffus’ attitude after he signed for Oldham Athletic on a permanent basis yesterday.

The 21-year-old, who joined the club from Premier League side Everton, impressed the manager with his desire to develop as a player.

He said: “The thing I liked about Courtney was that he wasn’t happy playing under 21 football at Everton, he wanted to come and prove himself at first team level and I’m chuffed to get him.

“It’s been going on for a couple of weeks now and I knew that he would be coming in so I’m just pleased he is finally here and he will be a good addition.

“He is young and wanted to come out of Everton and play football so I was pleased to get him. There is a lot of potential there, he has a lot of pace and he makes us look even more stronger now.

The addition of Duffus adds to a strong forward line including Craig Davies, Aaron Amadi-Holloway, Tope Obadeyi and Darius Osei.

“There is competition for places and that’s what I want. It keeps the players on their toes and looking over their shoulders because there is someone good ready to take their place.

“Not scoring goals was a big problem for us last season so it doesn’t give me a headache. I’ve got five strikers now and whether I pick one, two or three, I’ll look at that when the time comes. It’s good competition for places.”
