Duffus Over The Moon To Net First Goal

24 July 2017

Striker Courtney Duffus has settled well into life at Oldham Athletic.

The 21-year-old netted his first goal for the club on Saturday against Accrington Stanley and he was delighted to get off the mark.

He said: “I’m over the moon but I know there is still a lot of work to be done.

“It’s only my second 45 minutes of pre-season so I need a lot more game time to get that sharpness back but overall I feel good.

“I’ve enjoyed this week a lot. I’m obviously getting used to a different environment but the lads have made me feel very welcome.”

Duffus could have scored his first goal half an hour earlier but the hand of an Accrington Stanley prevented the ball going over the line.

“I wanted to take the penalty but the senior pros wanted it as well so I had to hand the ball over,” admitted Duffus.

“I managed to get my goal at the end though so I’m happy.”

There are five strikers competing for a starting spot in John Sheridan’s side.

“Everyday we are working together on different striker partnerships,” he said.

“At the same time though, you’ve got to relish the competition and get yourself in the starting 11.”
