Sheridan"I’m Pleased With How The Game Went.”

24 July 2017

Manager John Sheridan was happy with Saturday’s work out against Sky Bet League Two side Accrington Stanley in a pre-season fixture.

New signing Courtney Duffus scored a late equaliser as Latics drew 2-2 with Stanley and he was happy with the way his side played.

He said: “I’m pleased with how the game went, I thought Accrington played really well and we managed to get a lot of fitness out of the game.

“You learn from pre-season and it all leads to the first game of the season so I was pleased with how the game went. I always like to win a game but Accrington gave us a tough test and we had to work hard to get a result.”

Craig Davies scored the first for Latics from the penalty spot. “I’m pleased that Courtney Duffus and Craig Davies scored but there are still lots to work on and we can do a lot better,” Sheridan commented.

“We have two weeks until the first game against Oxford and now we concentrate on what team and what shape we are going to play leading up to the Oxford game.”

Duffus, who only signed for the club a week ago, has impressed the manager since his arrival. “The thing I like about him is that he has come out of Everton and wants to play football,” he said.

“He’s fighting for a place in the side and I’m glad he’s scored because it will give Davies, Holloway, Obadeyi and Darius a kick up the backside.

“Courtney hasn’t been with us long but he has created the penalty as well so I’m pleased with how he’s doing.”
