Experienced midfielder Paul Green admitted it was an easy decision to pen a new one-year deal with the club.
Green made 47 appearances last season, scoring one goal and at the end of the season, manager John Sheridan offered the midfielder a new contract which he was happy to sign.
He said: “I’m excited to get another year under my belt and the way we finished the season, I just think that there is a lot of good things that can happen at this club and that’s why I’ve signed another year.
“It was an easy decision for me, especially with he gaffer coming in. Playing under him and working with him, I know what he’s all about and he knows the league so hopefully we can push on this year.
“I spoke to him at the end of the season and he said that he wanted to keep me so I went away and thought about it and it was an easy decision to sign for another year.”
Green helped Latics finish 17th last season but has set his sights much higher this time around.
“The way we finished the season, if we can start like that then we can be there or there abouts,” he commented. “We have a good group of players and good togetherness in the changing room so we can take it into next year as well.
“We need to push up the league and finish as high as possible. With the squad that we’ve got I’m sure we can push for the play offs.”
The 34-year-old has enjoyed time off with his family since the end of the season but has been working hard to make sure he is ready for the start of pre-season.
“I try to keep myself ticking over anyway, you have got to these days, especially with the fitness levels which are needed in the league,” he said. “I’ve kept myself going, had my holidays but I can’t wait to get back at it now.”
