RIP Gordon Lawton (1953-2017)

14 June 2017

Oldham Athletic are saddened to report that club legend, Gordon Lawton has passed away aged 63.

Everybody at the club would like to send their deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone who he has touched whilst being the heart and soul of Oldham Athletic.

Gordon started at the club in 1986 setting up a lottery in the commercial department before holding a number of positions at the club including programme editor, club commentator, media manager and football secretary.

Known to many as 'the voice of Oldham Athletic,' Gordon was a familiar face to all visitors at SportsDirect.com Park.

In recent years, his witty charm would immediately welcome members of the press from up and down the country, setting the tone for the warm family welcome the club has on a matchday because of him.

He recently hung up his microphone after 23 years of unique and amusing commentary to concentrate fully on his role as football secretary.

He will be forever remembered by everyone at the club as a legend, one in a million and the heart and soul of Oldham Athletic.

Rest in peace, Gordy.
