Chief Executive Mark Moisley has penned this tribute following the sad loss of club legend Gordon Lawton.
The passing of Gordon Lawton is a devastating blow to everyone connected to Oldham Athletic and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad and difficult time.
Gordon was a popular and much loved figure not only throughout the club, but by the football world in general, as we have seen through the many wonderful tributes that have been paid.
His loyal service to the club spanned a 31-year period during which time he occupied many roles and brought the same dedication and genial humour to each.
He is probably best known to supporters for his passionate commentary at Latics games, a passion for the club that was clear to see in everything he did.
We were all victims at times of his wicked sense of humour, always done with a very innocent face that made him appear so convincing.
He was a massive part of our daily life at the club and we will miss him enormously. We have lost his knowledge, his experience, his companionship. We have lost a colleague. But most of all we have lost a friend.
The club will go on, Gordon would not have wanted anything less, but he will forever be in our hearts.
Details of Gordon's funeral will be shared once they have been arranged.
