Fawns: “It’s A Dream Come True.”

22 June 2017

Young striker Mason Fawns admitted it was a dream come true to pen his first professional contract with Oldham Athletic.

The youngster signed a one-year contract with Latics and cannot wait to get started.

He said: "It’s my dream to become a professional footballer at a great club as well.

"I’ve been here five months before this and my aim was to get a pro contract here and my dream has come true.

"I’m a forward and I’m a confidence player on the ball. I love to take people on and I’m not scared to shoot. I enjoy my football and that’s the type of player I am.

"Hopefully if I get plenty of game time then I will score goals and do the best for the team. Hopefully I can kick on next season."

Fawns was part of Tony Philliskirk's youth team for the second part of last season.

"It’s a massive step up from youth team football to first team football," admitted Fawns.

"You’ve got better players marking you and better players that you are playing with.

"We’ve got experienced players such as Peter Clarke and hopefully they will help me kick on this season."

Fawns spoke to manager John Sheridan before the end of the season and he gave the youngster some words of advice.

"He told me that I’ve got a great chance," Fawns said.

"He gives young players a chance which we saw last season so hopefully he can give me the chance I need and I can do my best at this club."
