McLaughlin: “We Fancy Ourselves Against Anybody At Home.”

14 March 2017

Ryan McLaughlin believes home advantage could be key tonight against Oxford United.

Latics have only been beaten once at home in 2017 and the 21-year-old believes the players play with huge confidence at SportsDirect.com Park.

He said: “At home, we fancy ourselves against anybody all the time and we will do a good job.

“Oxford is going to be a difficult game, they have some good players and they are on a good run so we know it’s going to be difficult.

"The game earlier in the season was tough. We scored early on and then dropped back a bit and they had the majority of the ball.

“We had a man sent off but we kept them at bay with 10 men and we managed to get a draw.

“It will be a different game though, they have a lot of ability in their squad and I know a couple of them from youth team days so I’m expecting a tough game but I expect us to win it also.”

With Rob Hunt and Brian Wilson back in contention following injury and suspension, the versatile McLaughlin could be moved to a more advanced position tonight.

“Rob has come in and he’s done brilliant,” commented the Northern Irishman. “It’s only his first loan and I think he’s done brilliantly so far.

"He will be welcomed back and Brian Wilson has been excellent for us. He has good experience and we’re looking forward to them coming back in and it can only make us stronger.”

The fans can really make the difference tonight according to McLaughlin: “The fans have been brilliant for us and it was a great turn out from them on Saturday against Bury,” he said.

“They have been very supportive so we are hoping for more to get us over the line and stay safe."
