On this day in 2003, former Oldham Athletic number one, Les Pogliacomi kept his 16th clean sheet of the season.

The Australian joined the club at the start of the campaign for his first ever year in England.

On the day, Queens Park Rangers were the visitors at Boundary Park for the Division Two promotion battle.

Future Latics keeper Chris Day was in net for QPR, but it was Pogliacomi who won the honours with a great display to keep Ranger’s attack at bay. 

The 0-0 result meant Latics’ number one had kept his 16th clean sheet in 37 games, equalling Andy Goram’s record from 1986/87. 

Speaking to the club’s website, Pogliacomi described it as the best season in his career: “I knew Andy Goram, I was a young kid when he was in the prime of his game but I knew how good a goalkeeper he was, so for me to take the record off him I was pretty chuffed.”

He would go on to record 18 league clean sheets, with 19 in all competitions - a record which still stands today, just…
