Sheridan: “It Was An Excellent Win.”

15 March 2017

Manager John Sheridan hailed his players following last night’s 2-1 win over an in-form Oxford United.

Lee Erwin scored a header in either half to win the game for Latics and Sheridan heaped praise on his players following the game.

He said: "It was an excellent win against a really good team. Their away form is really good, they had a really good season last season and they are doing well in this division.

“It was a magnificent performance from us and I think we deserved to win the game as well.

“It was great desire from the players and I can only applaud them as they knew the importance of getting three points after a draw on Saturday.

“They went out and gave everything I wanted from them so it was a good performance because I wouldn’t like to play against us at the moment.

"We had some really good chances. We had the better chances and I thought Aaron Holloway was outstanding.

“I would have loved him to score a goal, he was a handful all night and Lee Erwin gets his two goals.

“He was in the right place at the right time but again, it was a good battling performance.”

Defender Rob Hunt limped out of last night’s win in the first half. “I was gutted for him,” admitted Sheridan.

“He wanted to play and he was fit to play but whether it is the pitch regarding Rob’s injury, I don’t know but he just felt it.

“He knows his body better than anyone and he’s come off early but I’m hoping it’s not too serious."

Results went for Latics last night, and they now sit five points clear of the relegation places.

“If you keep winning everything takes care of itself,” he commented. “We have just got to look after ourselves and if we keep on winning then we will be fine.

“We have a tough game coming up on Saturday against Peterborough United but we go there with the incentive of winning the game.”
