Clarke Expecting Tough FA Cup Clash

3 November 2017

Captain Peter Clarke knows tomorrow’s FA Cup first round clash against Carlisle United will be a tough encounter, despite the league difference.

Carlisle currently sit 16th in Sky Bet League Two but Clarke is keen to ensure the players remain focused.

He said: “ We know that it will be a tough game but one that we are looking forward to and one we think we will win.

“Make no mistake, Carlisle might be in the division below but they are a good side and one that we will have to be on our metal for.

“We need to be on our game, well drilled in what we have to do and expose their weaknesses.

“We are well aware it will not be an easy game, there never is an easy game.”

The captain has very fond memories of the FA Cup growing up from an early age.

“As a kid growing up, FA Cup final day went on from around 11am,” he explained.

“The TV coverage started and then I’d be out in the garden kicking a ball about and then I would be in front of the TV watching the build up.

“For me, the FA Cup is a wonderful competition and every time the competition comes around, the magic of the FA Cup is mentioned and to me it’s the best cup competition around.”

The fans are expected to support in their numbers once again. “We get fantastic support and the travelling fans are great,” Clarke said.

“We want to give them something to shout about and make sure they go home happy.”
