Oldham Athletic Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk was pleased with his side’s win against Lincoln at the weekend but felt the team could have been more ruthless in front of goal.
The young Latics ran out 1-0 winners, with Ryan Scholes-Beard netting the only goal in the game with a first half header after good build up by Max Norman.
“First of all it was an important win. We were top of the league and they were second so in that respect it had a high level of Importance in itself.” Philliskirk said.
“Lincoln were a strong, physical team, we like to move the ball quickly, so no disrespect but the game suited them more.
“It’s been the story of our season so far, even though were top of the league, we should have scored so many more goals. We won the game 1-0 which was great, but we should have won by five or six and been totally out of sight within an hour.
“The real positive is that we kept a clean sheet and won the game. All in all, I have to be pleased with that, but the lads have to start being more ruthless and clinical in the final third because better teams with better attacking play will punish us.
“The way we got beat against Bury in the FA Youth cup was massively disappointing, the level of the performance on that evening was very poor. In that respect it was great to bounce back in such a big game in a positive way.”
Next up Oldham Athletic’s Youth Team host Bury at Chapel Road in the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup on Saturday November 25, 11:00am kick off.
