Wellens Expecting Another Good Run Of Results

16 November 2017

Oldham Athletic manager Richie Wellens is expecting his side to go on another good run of results between now and the festive period.

Latics have only lost one game in their last seven Sky Bet League One Matches.

Wellens side haven’t played in the league since their defeat at home to Scunthorpe United at the end of October.

“The break has been nice for a couple lads who were feeling a couple things and fatigued, they’ve had a good break now.

“We’ve trained this week and were ready to go.” The Manager said.

This weekend sees local rivals Rochdale, who are two places below Latics, visit SportsDirect.com Park.

Despite losing in their last league game, Wellens wants to continue his side’s attacking style.

“I know we won the Newcastle game but I’ve said before were conceding too many goals.” He said.

“If you’re getting bombarded and conceding loads of goals then it’s easy to put your finger on, but when were having a lot of the game and the opposition are hardly getting into the box but still scoring 3 goals, then that’s a difficult one.

“For me, I don’t want to change the way we play, it’s just about individuals locking onto people in the box, especially in between the six-yard box and the penalty box to make sure people haven’t got free headers.

“I think because of the run we have been on people will make us automatic favourites and think that we should be winning, but we’ve got no divine right to win these games.

“It’s about if we come with the right attitude and play with the same intensity we have been playing with. If we stick to our game then we can come out with a good points return between now and Christmas and I expect us to do that.

“In this league if you turn up and don’t do what’s got you into these positions then you get your bum smacked.

“I’m expecting a good football match on Saturday, Keith Hill is renowned for playing good football.

“I’ve watched some of the videos and they have some really tidy footballers so I’m expecting a good football match because we will obviously want to do the same.

“Keith Hill isn’t scared of changing his system three or four times in a game so tactically it will be interesting, but more than anything it will be a good football match.”

“I’ve said it loads of times before, this stadium when its full has a fantastic atmosphere. We saw that with late goals against Bury and Blackburn.

“The atmosphere has been fantastic. What I would say now is that we are scoring a lot of goals and playing entertaining football, we want to try and build on this to create a culture where the fans enjoy coming to watch us.

“They can’t go five minutes before the end now because we are capable of going right to the end. Come and join us, enjoy the football and hopefully we can climb the table.”

Oldham Athletic host Rochdale on Saturday, November 18 at SportsDirect.com Park, 3:00pm kick off.

Supporters are reminded that there are reduced ticket prices for this game, as well as the matches against AFC Wimbledon and Northampton Town if they buy a half season ticket.
