Wellens Believes Fans Have Massive Part To Play

20 November 2017

Oldham Athletic Manager Richie Wellens believes the supporters can big a big help to the team tomorrow evening during the match against AFC Wimbledon.

Latics host the Dons at SportsDirect.com Park and could make it back to back victories in Sky Bet League One.

On the game, Wellens said:  “First and foremost we don’t want our rivals in and around us to pick up three points and we don’t get anything, so it’s important not to lose.

“When you’re at home, we’re looking to try and win.

“Wimbledon had a great result away at Bristol and scored three great goals, they’ve got a bit of pace in the team and good attacking players.

“If you look at the team sheet they’re not a bottom of League One side, they’ve got some good players who have played at a higher level.

“I think sometimes when you have a bad start to the season it can affect your confidence and it takes a little bit of time to get going, similar to ourselves, Wimbledon have had a bad start but they are starting to pick up now.

“I’d like to think that the players have given the fans something to shout about.

“You get to about 75 minutes and you have a little lull in the game, Rochdale dug in and you’re wondering if the game is going to turn against us.

“The fans took it upon themselves to raise the intensity of the game and the atmosphere around the ground and then we go on to win 3-1. They have massive part to play.”
