Wellens Looking For More Intensity

30 November 2017

Oldham Athletic manager Richie Wellens is happy with his side's recent performances but wants the team to increase the intensity in their game.

Latics have recorded back to back draws in the past nine days and the manager is hoping for a return to winning ways when they take on Southend United on Saturday.

Ahead of the match, which is also the side's game in hand, the manager said: “It’s important because no one else is playing, we’ve got a chance to make three points on everyone around us.

“It was probably the worst we’ve played against Gillingham but we still should have probably won the game so I’m expecting us to get our performance levels back up.

“We're a team that can cause damage if we’re on our game.

“We’ve had 13 games, 10 in the league and lost one so the performance levels are there, like I’ve said sometimes you can’t control the result, strikers can miss chances and there can be a defensive mistake.

“Performance levels you can concentrate on and if you get them right you can pick up a lot more results.

“I was pleased with the performance against Gillingham, I just thought some individuals looked a bit leggy so if we can get that little intensity back to our game, we’re looking to go to Southend and win.”

Oldham Athletic take on Southend United at Roots Hall on Saturday, December 2, 3pm kick off.
