MATCH PREVIEW: Carlisle United vs. Oldham Athletic

3 November 2017

Oldham Athletic travel to Brunton Park tomorrow afternoon to face Carlisle United in the first round of the FA Cup.

Latics’ seven game unbeaten run came to an end last weekend as they were defeated 2-3 by Scunthorpe United.

That was Richie Wellens’ first defeat as manager of the football club and he is keen to put that game to bed and start another similar run.

Athletic fell two goals behind early on but battled back to draw level through goals from Peter Clarke and Craig Davies, however, a goal on 83 minutes secured the three points for the Iron.

Carlisle United have had a disappointing start to the season and currently sit 16th in Sky Bet League Two.

They drew 2-2 with bottom side Chesterfield last weekend with goals from Danny Grainger and Richie Bennett.

Carlisle United have not won at home in their past eight games and have only won one game at home this season.

That came against Cheltenham Town in August in a 3-0 victory.

Courtney Duffus, Gyamfi Kyeremeh and Ryan McLaughlin remain the only players out through injury.

On tomorrow’s game, he said: “It’s a different competition now, the FA Cup is an important competition for this club and like every club we want to try and make it to the third round, make some money and try and get a big tie but also bring some excitement to the fans.

“When it gets to the third round of the FA Cup everyone looks forward to it because the big boys are in the hat so it’s about going there being professional and making sure we’re in the second round draw.

“It’s probably the best cup competition in the world, every single club in the country is involved so it’s exciting.

“We could have had an easier draw, Carlisle are a good side and they like to attack with a lot of players so it’ll be a tough game but we’re looking forward to it and we go there with confidence.”

Odds

Oldham Athletic have been priced at 17/10 outsiders for tomorrow’s game against Carlisle United.

Carlisle can also be found at 6/4 whilst the draw is 5/2.

Craig Davies is the favourite to open the scoring tomorrow at 9/2.
