MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. AFC Wimbledon

21 November 2017

Oldham Athletic are back in Sky Bet League One action tonight as they face AFC Wimbledon at Park.

Athletic will be hoping to make it three wins out of three this evening following Saturday’s 3-1 win over local rivals Rochdale.

Cameron Dummigan opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game before Matt Done equalised.

However, Eoin Doyle stole the show in the final 10 minutes of the game, notching a brace, the second of which was an absolute stunner to win the game and claim the three points.

That followed a superb 4-1 victory over Newcastle United under 21s in the Checkatrade Trophy where Doyle also notched a brace.

Latics are eager to get back into action and continue the momentum from the weekend and face an AFC Wimbledon side who sit 19th in Sky Bet League One.

The visitors picked up an impressive victory on the road over the weekend as they beat Bristol Rovers 3-1.

Goals from Andy Barcham, Harry Forrester and Cody McDonald secured the comfortable win as they head into tonight’s game with confidence.

Speaking ahead of the game, Latics boss Richie Wellens said: “First and foremost we don’t want our rivals in and around us to pick up three points and we don’t get anything, so it’s important not to lose.

“When you’re at home, we’re looking to try and win.

“Wimbledon had a great result away at Bristol Rovers and scored three great goals, they’ve got a bit of pace in the team and good attacking players.

“If you look at the team sheet they’re not a bottom of League One side, they’ve got some good players who have played at a higher level.

“I think sometimes when you have a bad start to the season it can affect your confidence and it takes a little bit of time to get going. Similar to ourselves, Wimbledon have had a bad start but they are starting to pick up now.”

Latics will be without winger Ryan McLaughlin (hamstring) and Gyamfi Kyeremeh (groin) who are still a few weeks from fitness but otherwise Wellens has a fully fit squad to choose from.

The last encounter between the two sides ended a goalless draw at the Cherry Red Records Stadium at the end of last season.

Sky Bet have listed Athletic as favourites for the match at 11/8 with the visitors 2/1 to win.

In-form strikers Eoin Doyle and Craig Davies are both priced at 4/1 to score the opening goal of the match.
