Byrne Praises Wellens' Entertaining Style Of Football

27 October 2017

On loan midfielder Jack Byrne has praised the entertaining style of football that is being played by Oldham Athletic.

Byrne, who signed on loan from Wigan Athletic on transfer deadline day has proven to be a key attacking player in the Latics’ midfield, scoring two and setting up four for his team mates.

The Irishman has also been key in Richie Wellens’ style of attacking football which was on show in Tuesday evening’s win against Bury.

Aaron Amadi-Holloway scored a 94th minute winner to seal all three points and move the team six points above the relegation zone.

On Tuesday’s game, Byrne said: “We were all happy because we put so much into the MK Dons game and they scored in the last couple of minutes which was a kick in the teeth but we were all buzzing when the tables turned and we got the last minute winner so it was a very happy dressing room.

We’re seven games unbeaten and the lads are chomping at the bit.”

Byrne’s fellow countryman, Eoin Doyle is currently one of the most prolific strikers in Sky League One scoring a goal every 100 minutes.

“Doyle is a good bloke to have around the place, he’s been great for me and I’m delighted for him it’s great to see him doing well.

“He’s a top player, I don’t know how he’s playing in this league because he is an unbelievable finisher and he’ll get goals anywhere, if you give him the chances he’s going to put them away and I think he’s proved that over the last couple of months.

“Ten goals at this stage is ridiculous, Craig Davies is on seven as well so we’re not struggling for goals and I don’t think we will with them two.”

This weekend Latics take on Scunthorpe United at SportsDirect.com Park and a win would make it four on the bounce at home.

On the recent form, the midfielder said: “When we go on to the pitch we don’t feel like anyone can beat us if we play to the best of our ability.

“If we’re fresh and we’re at it I don’t think there’s any team in the league that can really do us in.

“We’re confident going into every game and Richie Wellens has us playing some good football.

“We’re popping it about, you see Johny Placide chopping people in the box and it’s great to see so we’re all buzzing and delighted to be playing well and we’re getting the results to show for it.”

Richie Wellens side host Scunthorpe United on Saturday, October 28, 3pm kick off.
