Philliskirk Predicts Tough Cup Test

31 October 2017

Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk hopes his players step up to the occasion tomorrow night but knows it will be a tough test for his side.

Oldham Athletic youth team face Bury in the first round of the FA Youth Cup and Philliskirk believes it’s a good chance for his players to show what they are all about.

He said: “Bury are a very good team and it’s not an ideal draw for either team. We drew each other last year in the competition and both teams would have liked to have played a team we are not used to playing but we know each others strengths and weaknesses.

“The players goals are to play in front of an audience and play on the big stage. This is their opportunity to prove themselves and we have prepared very diligently for the game.

“It’s nerve-wracking for the players because a lot of them have not played on the main pitch but at the same time it’s their stage tomorrow and we look forward to seeing who can perform.

“We have players who can be exciting going forward. We are doing well in the season after a sticky start. We are just hoping it’s a good game and it’s a great chance for the players to showcase what they are all about.”

Oldham Athletic youth team take on Bury on Wednesday, November 1 (7pm kick off).
