BYRNE: "We Want To Take The Game To Shrewsbury"

15 September 2017

Following on from his goal against Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic midfielder Jack Byrne is looking to fire the team towards the first home win of the season.

The Irishman opened the scoring with a long range effort on Tuesday night in the victory against Bristol Rovers, extending his goal tally to two in four games for the club.

Speaking about the win at the Memorial Stadium, Byrne said: "I’m delighted, I want to get goals and assists this year and help the team, I’m just happy that it was a nice one but they all count.

"It was really important to get that win and with the signs of the last couple of weeks, especially since I’ve been here, in the Charlton [Athletic] game, the Fleetwood [Town] game and then Tuesday night it’s all going well so far, fingers crossed we can continue."

Since the 21-year-old signed on loan at the club on transfer deadline day, he has been impressed with the strikeforce.

"They are problems for anyone in this league, they are two quality players. I’d heard a lot about [Eoin] Doyle before he signed from what he’s done before and being Irish.

"A couple of friends at Bolton have spoke very highly of Craig [Davies] and you can see the two of them together will cause anyone in this league and most leagues problems the way they play.

"The work they do off the ball is unbelievable for the team."

This weekend Latics host league leaders Shrewsbury Town at SportsDirect.com Park and Byrne believes the team have a good chance of gettting a positive result.

"Every game in this league is tough, anyone can beat anyone. We’re at home, we want to take the game the Shrewsbury, we take in a lot of confidence from the last couple of games."

"With the home fans behind us, hopefully we get a good turn out and hopefully we can keep climbing the table nicely."

Since his deadline day move to the club, Byrne has featured in every game and is happy with life at Latics.

"I’m loving it to be fair, I really am, I couldn’t have asked for a better start apart from a couple of results going our way that we thought we should have got.

"Considering game time, how the gaffer has made me feel and the lads, it’s a great group of lads, I’m delighted to be here, hopefully we can keep getting a few more wins."

Oldham Athletic take on Shrewsbury Town tomorrow, Saturday, September 16 at SportsDirect.com Park, 3pm kick off.
