Edmundson Expecting Tough Encounter Tonight

11 April 2018

Defender George Edmundson hopes to continue his good form built up over recent games this evening against Walsall.

The defender was drafted in for the game against Blackpool and kept a clean sheet alongside youth team player Tom Hamer at Oxford United.

Edmundson had to play a more senior role in the defence on Saturday and he believes he can continue to develop whilst playing games.

He said: “Kean has a lot of experience now but when he went off I felt I needed to step up and help Tom and I felt like I did that.

“It was tough because I felt I had added pressure to step up and help Tom but I felt like it improved my game.

“Richie was buzzing at the end of the game. Obviously it would have been nice to get the three points but I think he was just happy to get the clean sheet.”

Walsall are the visitors to Boundary Park this evening and Edmundson knows a win could take them five points clear of the relegation places.

“It’s going to be tough,” he admitted. “Obviously, they’re down there now as well and they need to win.

“It’s going to be a good game, we’re all up for it and I’m sure we can get three points.”

The young defender paid tribute to the supporters who attended on Saturday and is encouraging tonight’s crowd to make a lot of noise.

“When they get behind you, it doesn’t half give you a boost,” he said. “They might not think it but it really does.

“Even when we’re defending, they get a corner and the crowd are going ‘come on, come on’ it doesn’t half make a difference.

“It gives me a little buzz. You probably see when it goes out for a corner I start smiling when they all cheer!”
