Baxter: "Three Points A Must"

17 August 2018

Jose Baxter says nothing short of three points this weekend is required when Latics take on Macclesfield Town in the Sky Bet League Two.

Baxter feels that Oldham need to start picking up wins otherwise they’ll fall behind the teams at the top of the table.

“If we come into this game and pick up a point then before you know it we're 4/5 games in and 7/8 points off the top of the table, so we need three points this weekend.” He said.

“The first game of the season you can always put that down to a bit of nerves, new lads and changes in the club, but at Forest Green Rovers we wanted three points, but we ended up with a good point in the end.

“It doesn't matter how we get them we need three points this Saturday.”

However, Baxter knows that this weekend's opponents Macclesfield will be no easy ride.

The Silkmen won the Conference National League by a comfortable ten points so there is no room for complacency.

“They’re a team who know how to win with a good manager but, we just need to show them why we're one of the so-called big boys in this league.”

It has been a frustrating return to Boundary Park for Baxter with the injury he picked up in pre-season and he admits he’s still well off the pace required.

However, he feels like it won’t be long until the fans see the very best of him once again.

“I feel good, I just need to get a little bit fitter and get more minutes on the training pitch as well and get that fitness topped up.

“I think the more games the better it is the to get fit and gel with the team.”

A fan favourite, Baxter is excited to get back out there in front of the Latics fans on a regular basis.

“Last time I had a special bond with the fans and it's no different this time, they know the love I have for the club and hopefully I can do them proud again.”

Latics take on Macclesfield Town this Saturday, August 18, at Boundary Park 3pm kick off.
