Benteke Delighted To Be An Oldham Athletic Player

6 February 2018

Striker Jonathan Benteke cannot wait to pull on the blue of Oldham Athletic.

The 22-year-old signed a short-term contract until the end of the season today and he is delighted to be a Latics player.

He said: “I am happy to be at Oldham Athletic.

“I will do my best to play good here and stay in League One. I’m really happy and let’s start now.

“I played my first game about a week ago and it was not too bad.

“I tried to help the team and do my best but now I am looking forward to the next game and to help the team.”

Benteke has made one Premier League appearance and a number in his native Belgium and he gave his thoughts about Sky Bet League One.

“I know that it is a tough league but I will fight and do my best to be as good as I can,” he commented.

“It was good at Palace and good abroad but now I am at Oldham and I want to show my qualities.

“I prefer to show what I can do on the pitch. I can keep the ball and I think I am a good finisher but I prefer to speak on the pitch.”

Jonathan is the brother of Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke and he has given the 22-year-old words of advice ahead of his move.

“He said to me to give my best in every game to help the team,” Benteke said.

“He will follow the game and the team and he is happy for me. He thinks it’s a good move for me.”
