MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic vs. Oldham Athletic

5 January 2018

Oldham Athletic make the long journey to Charlton Athletic tomorrow afternoon in Sky Bet League One.

Latics head into the game without a win in five games and looking to gain their first victory of 2018.

Richie Wellens men have only picked up one point over the Christmas period but will be hoping to put that right this weekend against Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks come into the game second to bottom in the form table and are without a win since the middle of November.

That came in a 2-1 win over Rochdale at the Valley, however, since then, have not won in their last four home games.

Charlton Athletic are currently 9th in Sky Bet League One and have picked up 37 points in 25 games.

A victory for Latics tomorrow could take them away from the relegation places and move towards the middle of the table.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wellens said: “We’ve had two games in three days so the preparation for this weekend’s game against Charlton Athletic has all been about recovery.

“They’re a big club, today they’ve signed Stephy Mavididi from Arsenal, they can afford him.

“They’ve got a centre half back that they paid £1 million for, they’re a big club with big finances.

“I’ll be telling my players it’s a great place to go and play, express yourselves, playing on a lovely pitch, let’s get back to it, lets get some some intensity into our game the way that we pass the ball about and let’s get a result.”

Wellens will be without Jack Byrne, Kean Bryan and Eoin Doyle who have all returned to their respective loan clubs.

Latics will also be without captain Peter Clarke who joined Bury on loan last week.

Sky Bet have listed Athletic as outsiders for tomorrow’s match at 21/10 with the visitors 5/4 to win.
