MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Rotherham United

12 January 2018

Oldham Athletic entertain Rotherham United in the first home fixture of 2018 at SportsDirect.com Park.

Athletic head into the game without a win in six games and looking to gain their first victory of 2018.

Richie Wellens’ men had a disappointing Christmas period and are yet to register a point this calendar year but they will be hoping to upset Rotherham United who are in good form at the moment.

The Millers head into the game unbeaten in six and have not lost since the start of December

Paul Warne was the winner of the Manager of the Month award for December after four wins, one draw and one defeat in the month.

Warne is a former Latics striker having served the club between 2005-07. The striker played with Wellens during Athletic’s run to the play-offs under John Sheridan.

A victory for Latics tomorrow could take them away from the relegation places and move towards the middle of the table.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wellens said: “He is a great character and always gives 110%. He was very good in the air for his size and could always nick a goal.

“He has a good affection with Rotherham and it’s a fantastic first job for him. They have a good infrastructure and good wage bill and it’s a real nice stadium and he’s doing well.

“He’s lost his main striker Kieffer Moore so I’m expecting something different than I was two weeks ago.

“They played a lot off him but now they have Yates and Ball playing up front and they are smaller but have more movement.

“In the last two games they have changed their style of play but we will be aware of their qualities.”

Sky Bet have listed Athletic as outsiders for tomorrow’s match at 15/8 with the visitors 7/5 to win.
